Self Portrait Time-Lapse, and a Fresh New Logo!
June 2024 will mark my 12th year working as a professional illustrator and comic artist. I’ve been lucky to work on a bunch of great projects in that time, but as expected, my work has evolved since starting my career and it seemed like it was time to do a bit of a “brand refresh” for myself as an artist for hire. First on that list was to create a new logo that better encapsulates the work I do now, and would like to do in the future. The next was to create a self-portrait profile picture for my social media that better reflects the look of my current work. I’m thrilled with how both have turned out!
Below, you can check out a 60-second time-lapse of the self-portrait (real drawing time was roughly 3.5 hours), as well as 6 variations on my new logo to be used in different scenarios. I created the portrait in Clip Studio Paint 3.0 with brushes from my Textured Inkers and Scruffy Pencils brush pack, and created the logo in Affinity Designer 2.0.
If you’re an artist using Clip Studio Paint, or someone who likes to play around with digital brushes, you can get that Textured Inkers and Scruffy Pencils set, as well as others, on my Gumroad or Ko-Fi.
I also used a few new dry brushes I’m making while drawing the self-portrait. These are digital brushes that are still in development and aren’t available yet, but you can see me using them for the hair in the time-lapse. I hope to release these brushes a little later this year.
If you’d like to work with me on a project, I’m currently available for book and comic covers, posters, and other single illustration jobs. I am, however, booked up on interior/sequential work for the time being.
Lastly, I’d like to thank Hireillo’s Darren Di Lieto for helping to spur this on with a recent portfolio review. More to come!
